What Is a Generator Engine Model Cross Reference?

A lookup table that connects a generator set model to the engine model installed inside it — and the reverse. It maps the genset model to the engine model so you can identify, compare, and source parts correctly across Cummins, Perkins, Weichai, and Yuchai.

Identify Confirm What You Have

Find out exactly which engine is in a set you already own. Match the genset model or the engine stamp to the cross reference table.

Compare Options at Every kVA

See which engine options deliver the same kVA in a new build. Compare Cummins, Perkins, Weichai, and Yuchai side by side.

Service Parts & Maintenance

Match filters, injectors, and service kits to the correct engine family. The cross reference connects to the parts table.

Why This Mapping Is Hard to Find

Engine manufacturers like Cummins and Perkins publish detailed catalogs of their own engines, but no single source maps generator set models to engines across multiple brands. A fleet with mixed brands, or a buyer comparing a Cummins option against a Weichai option, has to open four separate catalogs and align them by kVA. That is the gap this page closes — and the reason we publish a downloadable cross reference chart rather than a static article.

Footnote: This is a representative generator engine cross reference, not a guarantee that every engine listed is fitted to every build in the band. Engine fitment depends on the alternator interface, the PTO, the radiator package, the governor, and the emission tier. For the exact configuration of a specific generator, refer to the full diesel generator specifications database or ask our engineers.

How to Use This Guide

How to Find the Engine Model & Understand Interchangeability

Identify the engine in your generator, understand how model numbers map, and learn what can — and cannot — be swapped between brands.

01

Find the Engine Model

Start with the genset data tag on the frame or control cabinet. It lists the generator set model and the rated output. Note the genset model, because it identifies the set family and the kVA rating.

Next, find the engine model number stamped directly on the engine block. Common locations are the valve cover, the side of the block near the oil filter, or the blower housing on enclosed units.

02

Avoid the Emissions Number

Ignore the emissions family numbers on the engine label. They identify the emission family, not the engine model. The engine model you need follows the brand's naming convention, such as Cummins 6CTAA8.3-G2 or Perkins 1106A-70TAG2.

Example: A 250 kVA standby genset with an engine stamp reading NT855 — the cross reference confirms this is the Cummins option for the 250–330 kVA band.

03

Model Numbers to Engines

Generator model numbers usually encode the output rating, and the engine is a build option within that rating. In most genset naming, the digits identify the standby kVA, and the engine brand is a configuration choice, not part of the set identity.

A 200 kVA build for a European buyer might carry a Perkins 1106A, while the same frame for an African market might carry a Weichai WP12. The genset model stays the same — the cross reference tells you which power plant each build carries.

04

Parts Require the Engine Model

When ordering replacement parts, you must quote the engine model, not only the genset model. Filters, injectors, and service kits are engineered for the engine. A parts desk that only has the genset model cannot tell you the correct filter.

For Huali sets: The serial number on the data tag carries build information that identifies the engine fitted at the factory. Provide the serial number and our after-sales team can confirm the exact configuration.

05

Interchangeability & Swaps

Cross reference does not mean free swap. Within a kVA band, the engine options are alternative power plants for the same genset frame, but they are not bolt-in replacements for each other without re-engineering.

What must match: the duty rating, flywheel housing and SAE interface, PTO and governor, radiator and fan package, and emission tier. In practice, changing the engine inside an existing genset is rarely economical.

Because Huali fits all four brands, we can build the same output with the engine you prefer and the parts ecosystem you already stock.

Quick Reference

From Engine Stamp to Correct Parts

A site operator with a 250 kVA standby genset reads the engine stamp and finds NT855. The cross reference confirms this is the Cummins option for the 250–330 kVA band, and the parts section matches the NT855 family to its service kit reference.

If the stamp is unreadable, cross reference by genset model and kVA rating instead, then confirm the fitment with the supplier.

Final engine identification should be confirmed against the engine data plate and the generator specification sheet before ordering parts or replacement units. When in doubt, provide the set serial number to our after-sales team for a factory build record lookup.
